First of two-part article on the implementation of new film policies and infrastructure after the Anschluss. Describes the two-pronged mission that the NSDAP Filmstelle had set out at its foundation in 1930: the creation of a truly German cinema, cleansed of alien elements, which was achieved with the "Reichsfilmkammer", in 1933; and the ongoing organization of nation-wide political education through film. The purpose of cinema cannot remain limited to entertainment only. Through film all layers of society should be informed about the measures of its political leadership and how the population can contribute to them. It is, therefore, of major importance to create film organizations that cover the countryside and other isolated locations through the so-called Gaufilmstelle.
