Treatise on the possibilities of small-gauge film in projecting and circulating medical films (as 35mm film is cost-prohibitive and projection facilities are often unwieldy). Author argues for the establishment of an infrastructure of projection facilities, registration, archiving of, and easy access to, medical small-gauge materials.
Author distinguishes three types of medical film: the pedagogical Lehrfilm, medical films of general interest, and the medical film als research instrument. As these types are not always clearly distinguished, author proposes a detailed, international catalog as well as the establishment of a scientifically based distribution system. Author furthermore argues for the production of medical films on topics that lack visual documentation (e.g. pharmacology, internal medicine) as well sound films for psychiatry, neurology, phonetics or logopaedics. As well the importance of color film is emphasized. Finally, author points out that the repository of the Lichtbild- und Filmdienst is a good foundation for the realization of his proposals.
